Jonathan Viner is an American painter based in Rhode Island. He received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1998 and spent the following two decades in New York, initially working as a freelance illustrator for publications including The Village Voice, Rolling Stone, and Playboy, before focusing on painting and exhibiting his work.

Viner creates figurative paintings with open-ended narratives in which beauty, light, and tension converge in scenes that feel at once familiar and strange. Working primarily in oils, his paintings draw on the traditions and craft of representational painting while remaining firmly rooted in contemporary life.

After more than twenty years in New York, Viner returned to Rhode Island, where he now lives and works.
